Petition · past parliament
MPs be barred from paid/non-paid second jobs and/or consultancy work.

What the petition asks
To introduce a law so that MPs do not have second jobs as the MPs should focus solely on their role as an MP and representing their constituents.
MPs sole objective and role should be that of being an MP. They should represent their constituents and that is the reason they were elected. Second jobs, paid or non-paid, and/consultancy work distract and dilute their role as an MP. Exemption to the law can be made for those MPs who have professional qualifications that require them to work a certain number of hours a year/month to maintain their professional qualifications, for example doctors, nurses, solicitors, and barristers.
