What the petition asks
We want the Government to make 22nd June a bank holiday to commemorate the Windrush Generation. The Windrush generation have made an extraordinary contribution to British culture and our lives, greatly helping grow various staples in UK society, such as the NHS and TfL.
Members of the Windrush generation have endured discrimination, prejudice and racism since they stepped off of the ship 75 years ago on 22nd June 1948.
It is especially important now to commemorate the achievements of this generation, given the recent Windrush scandal, that showed unacceptable hostility towards these people. It truly is the least we can do.
