Make Meals on Wheels Services ( MoW ) in the UK a Statutory Service

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

Ensure that our most vulnerable residents are not left to suffer from malnutrition which has become a major public health issue in the UK . There are approximately 1.3 million elderly people in the UK suffering from malnutrition with the vast majority of those living in the community ( 93% ).
The Goverment should do this to save money . The cost of malnutrition to the health service is currently a staggering £23.5 billion. As the populatiuon ages , the costs of malnutrition & of failing to put in place proper systems for the diagnosis and treatment of malnutrition are likely to rise . The costs of making MoW a Statutory service is peanuts compared to the costs of not making MoW a statutory service. The costs to the NHS of treating a malnourished patient is 2 to 3 times /higher
