What the petition asks
A False Statements Act should be enacted making it a criminal offence to knowingly and wilfully make any materially false or fraudulent statement or representation in the course of any proceeding within the judicial, executive and legislative.
The adoption of a False Statements Act would be consistent with the Nolan principles of good governance, and we believe would reduce corruption and enhance compliance with the rule of law and the principles of equality, non-discrimination, democracy and respect for fundamental rights.
It should thus help promote good, democratic governance and public trust in state institutions.
