Require all dogs over a certain weight to be muzzled in public

What the petition asks
Require owners of dogs weighing more than a certain amount - for instance 10kg - to muzzle their pet while in public
Allow for owners to apply for exemptions based on breed, appearance or behaviour
Give police the power to stop and fine owners of unmuzzled dogs.
There has been a dramatic increase in the number of dog attacks on innocent members of the public, including fatalities and life-changing injuries. Too many of these attacks have occurred as a result of dogs that owners appear to have bred or trained to be aggressive. However, any dog can become aggressive, depending on the circumstances. The right to use public spaces safely must trump the rights of dog owners to exercise their large pets unmuzzled.
