What the petition asks
NHS dentistry is continuing to go private. Millions now have no access to NHS dentistry mostly the vulnerable; young, pensioners and poor. This must stop.
Emergency legislation needs to be passed in parliament to prevent any dentist going private. Additionally, a retro bill to get a windfall payment for a dentist to remain private or return them all to the NHS needs to be created immediately. The NHS dentistry is dying.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Most dentists working in dental practices who offer NHS dental services are self-employed contractors, not NHS employees, and this is not changing.
We could accept a petition calling on the Government to ban private dental services, or increase the tax on income from private dental services, if either of those are things you want to happen.
