Ban primary schools from offering attendance awards

Closed 381 signatures

What the petition asks

Ban attendance awards of all forms, including class and individual ones.
Awarding children for being well is confusing; Why reward luck?

These awards target parental decisions; primary pupils have little input.

I believe that it’s detrimental to society to encourage people to infect others by leaving home when unwell.

I believe that awards for attendance are unfair. They penalise students who have been ill through no fault of their own. Why punish that?

I believe that they discourage schools from implementing tailored and effective support, replacing that with awards instead.

They could detrimentally impact SEND and disabled pupils (likely to have lower attendance) which I believe is discrimination against a protected group under the Equality Act.

Finally, some research suggests that attendance awards are counter-productive!
