Public inquiry into the rights and representation of disabled people

Closed 1,260 signatures

What the petition asks

We, as disabled UK citizens, request an immediate inquiry into the policies that directly impact the rights of disabled people such as the welfare system and the representation of disabled people throughout the country.
An inquiry should look at whether the welfare system aligns with the human rights model of disability outlined in the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). It should also look at how disabled people are represented within society and look at solutions to combat negative views, discriminatory stereotypes, and prejudice in public and the media, including the assertion that dependency on benefits is a disincentive to seek employment. For example, this could be a government funded media campaign, in consultation with organisations representing persons with disabilities.
