Stop mass rollout of 20mph limits

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Proposal against 20mph speed limits

20mph speed limits are being introduced in many areas across the UK, in the name of road safety. However, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests that 20mph limits are ineffective and counterproductive.
There are a number of other ways to improve road safety and air quality without resorting to 20mph speed limits

Investing in public transportation: This would make it easier for people to get around without having to use their cars
Improving cycling infrastructure: This would encourage more people to cycle, which is a healthy and environmentally friendly way to travel
Implementing targeted traffic calming measures

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

The Government has announced that it will be review guidance on 20 mph speed limits in England. Further information is available here:

The Welsh Government and Welsh Parliament is responsible for the new rules around the introduction of the 20 mph speed limit in Wales.

The Welsh Parliament has its own Petitions Committee. If you'd like to send your petition to the Welsh Parliament, you can find out more here: https://petitions.senedd.wales/
