What the petition asks
Broadcasters that attempt to avoid impartiality laws pertaining to news broadcasters by registering as entertainment channels, should be forced under law to change their name or respect existing legislation.
Rogue broadcasters are using their status as entertainment channels to bypass existing impartiality legislation that their competitors are held to, while masquerading as news broadcasters.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Requirements relating to impartially are set out in the Broadcasting Code and are the responsibility of Ofcom. Further information is available here: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv-radio-and-on-demand/broadcast-codes/broadcast-code/section-five-due-impartiality-accuracy
