Petition · past parliament
members of the house of Lords should work a minimum of 40 hours a week.

What the petition asks
I want members of the house of lords to only be paid for proper attendance & work a minimum of 40 hours a week.
In this day & age where people are struggling to make ends meet it is unfair that members of the house of lords can turn up for five minutes & get paid for that attendance. They need to be more accountable to the general public who pay their wages.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
The attendance allowance paid to members of the House of Lords is a matter for the House of Lords, and not the Government or House of Commons. You can find out more about allowances for Members of the House of Lords here: https://www.parliament.uk/about/mps-and-lords/about-lords/lords-allowances/
