Mandate employers to respond to employment reference requests within 5 work days

What the petition asks
I want the Government to require employers to provide a reference for current and former employees. Refusal to respond to employment reference requests could be just as detrimental as a negative reference.
Currently, it's not mandatory for employers to respond to employment reference request. We believe that this is a particular problem with recruitment agencies. Government through an Act of Parliament should consider mandating employers to respond to employment reference requests within 5 working days. An employment reference within a reasonable time should be made a right and not a privilege.
