Create a public database/register of vets that have been found to be negligent

Closed 201 signatures

What the petition asks

I believe we have the right to know if the vets we are trusting and paying have a history of negligence. We need a public register that we can search to check whether the vet we are using is on it.
After having several bad vet experiences, I want the Government to take action to ensure that people can find out if a vet has been found to have been negligent.

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has no jurisdiction to adjudicate on claims of negligence unless it is so severe as to amount to serious professional misconduct. This means that claims or negligence against vets are a civil matter, and it can difficult to find out if the vet you are using is a decent vet or one with a history of negligence. A public database/register of vets that have been found to be negligent would help people find out if they can trust a vet before they use them
