Make tool and machinery theft a specific criminal offence
Closed
1,049 signatures
What the petition asks
Help combat theft from tradespeople with a specific criminal offence. This should have tough penalties and a register of offenders. The Government should work with the police and trade associations to encourage reporting and enforcement. Unite to protect small businesses from the scourge of theft.
Tool theft can devastate tradespeople, causing great emotional and financial losses. The industry suffers due to minimal protection, investigation, and prevention. Lack of adequate safeguards can leave them vulnerable to violent assaults. Urgent action is needed to strengthen safeguards for those contributing significantly to society, allowing them the freedom to protect their livelihoods without fear, and ensuring severe repercussions for offenders.
