What the petition asks
After announcing that they are 'cancelling' the Northern sections of HS2, the Government is proposing that it may remove safeguarding measures on these routes, leaving them unprotected.
The Government should keep these measures in place to allow for future construction to take place.
The Government should keep these measures in place to allow for future construction to take place.
For 14 years, there has been cross-party support for the HS2 programme. Now the Government has announced that it will stop HS2 from reaching the North where it is most needed, both to release capacity on the existing rail network and improve connectivity.
To allow for the possibility of these sections of this crucial high speed rail link being built in the future, the Government should keep safeguarding on these routes, even if they do not commit to building them at the moment.
