Bring back the Esperanto GCSE
Rejected
10 signatures
What the petition asks
Esperanto is a language spoken by hundreds of thousands worldwide. Why is a language a language like Ancient Greek even an option when it is hardly spoken. The Esperanto GCSE, discontinued in 2019, should be brought back to schools.
I am an Esperanto speaker and others that I know would support this change. It is not fair to prioritise other languages over ones with more speakers.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
It is for schools to decide which languages they teach as part of their curriculum, and for exam boards to consider which languages have sufficient demand for a GCSE or A Level to be made available.
