Require dose counters on SABA metered dose inhalers (MDIs)

What the petition asks
In the interest of public health and safety I would like the Government to make it a legal requirement that pharmaceutical companies must provide dose counters for their short acting beta 2 agonist (SABA) such as Salamol metered-dose inhalers (MDIs).
At the point of issue, patients and their families may not always be educated that some inhalers only contain 200 doses and that it is imperative that doses must be closely recorded and monitored. SABA inhalers can continue to fire doses of propellant when the medicine has run out. I fear empty inhalers are used in emergency and potentially life-threatening situations. This situation could be avoided by pharmaceutical companies providing dose counters to metered-dose SABA inhalers at the point of production. This would clearly warn the patient when their inhaler is about to run out of doses.
