Set up an independent regulator for leasehold properties to protect leaseholders

What the petition asks
Set up an independent regulator that protects leaseholders by ensuring service charges for leasehold properties are monitored, and independent audits are mandatory.
This is to protect tenants from managing agents that use unfair practises, and unjustified service charge increases, e.g. where service charges increase exponentially, are unsubstantiated and unable to be verified by leaseholders. We believe that there is a widespread problem that certain managing agents may overcharge leaseholders, either due to error or selecting vendors that are not in leaseholders' best interest, or even fraud. Leaseholders need to be protected.
