Make unlawfully killing a pet an offence akin to murder, not criminal damage

What the petition asks
We believe a change in the law needs to happen so that killing a pet is not treated as criminal damage but a criminal offence akin to murder so that the offence is taken more seriously and perpetrators face more substantial penalties.
We want the law changed as this is something that severely effects families across the country, causing mental health to suffer, our trust in the government and police to suffer, and feeling unsafe in our homes when the incident has occurred at this location. We believe the killing of dogs and other pets is not criminal damage it is as serious as murder and our families don’t feel safe if the killer is not found. Something needs to change.
