Compulsory annual safety inspections on roads throughout England

Closed 55 signatures

What the petition asks

Make it compulsory that all local authorities who are responsible for the maintenance & safety of public roads have those roads independently assessed on an annual basis in order to ensure that they are fit, and more importantly, safe, to be used by the public.
Most vehicles have to pass an annual MOT in order to ensure that they are safe to be used on public roads, however, are those public roads in themselves safe to be used?

I think that many roads throughout this country are not fit for purpose, or safe for people to use without the risk of causing damage to their vehicles and/or injury to themselves or others.

It should be compulsory, just like the MOT, that roads are checked independently on an annual basis to ensure that they are safe.
