Enable disqualification checks for persons charged under Animal Welfare Act 2006

What the petition asks
Following animal abuse convictions there are currently no provisions for breeders/rescues to check whether someone has been banned by court disqualification from keeping animals (s.34(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2006). We believe this has to change.
On 4 March 2021, in response to a petition calling on the Government to create a public register of people banned from keeping animals, the Government advised that it would keep the issue under review, including whether certain bodies could have more access to the PNC.
Please allow licensed breeders and rescue organisations direct access to crosscheck potential owners against Police National Computer (PNC) records for court ordered restrictions following Animal Welfare Act 2006 convictions.
