What the petition asks
Help the hospitality sector to survive . No VAT is charged on the food when we buy it but as soon as we prepare it & serve it we are charged 20% VAT - even on ice-cream !
This charge is putting a huge strain on small businesses & many long established restaurants are closing down .
This charge is putting a huge strain on small businesses & many long established restaurants are closing down .
Only they can help us to survive . If these businesses continue to close down because of the ever increasing costs , the local high streets & shopping centres will have an abundance of empty , boarded up buildings which look unsightly & cause a decrease in value to the other surrounding properties .
