Require carbon footprint of items be printed on packaging

What the petition asks
We would like legislation to be passed which requires manufacturers to print the carbon footprint of what they are selling on prominent places, for example on packaging.
Achieving Climate Change targets requires that the average carbon footprint be reduced from around 10 tonnes to around 2 tonnes per head. However, at present consumers cannot make an informed decision at the point of purchase based on a clear statement of the carbon footprint of what they are buying. If consumers were properly informed (as they are on sugar content) then they would be able to make better decisions on how to reduce their footprint.
