Petition · past parliament

Maintain, manage and dredge the rivers, in particular the mighty River Severn.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Parliament / Government to insist that the Environment Agency carries out the necessary work, to maintain, manage and DREDGE the rivers. Especially with regard to the River Severn, the longest river in England with the second highest tidal range in the world.
The abject lack of responsibility and response of the Environment Agency with regard to the destruction, devastation of homes, businesses and lives.
The flooding events are now more frequent and more extreme.
This is due to mismanagement by the named Agency.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The dredging of main rivers is regulated under the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2010, but decisions about dredging of individual rivers is a matter for individual local authorities and the Environment Agency, not the Government or House of Commons.

If you are concerned about management of a particular waterway you could contact the Environment Agency directly about this: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/environment-agency
