What the petition asks
Introduce new requirements to ensure accessibility by making it a legal requirement for all supermarkets to have wheelchair accessible tills and self-service checkouts.
Many wheelchair users struggle to retain their independence when shopping due to the lack of appropriate accessibility at tills and self-service checkouts.
Wheelchair users struggle with a variety of issues including difficulty getting close enough, difficulty reaching the card reader, tills or counter tops being too high so that wheelchair users cannot be heard or hear others, self-service checkouts not being accessible and narrow spaces that wheelchairs cannot get through.
