Petition · past parliament

Please make menopause a mandatory part of the GP curriculum.

Rejected 9 signatures

What the petition asks

I would like this to be discussed in Parliament as it will affect the majority of the UK population. We need to do more as a country to help and understand the menopause. It is improving but there is so much further to go.
At least 51% of the UK population is female. GP's are not currently taught about perimenopause or menopause. There are only 10 clinics in the UK that specialise in menopause.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.

Training for medical students and GPs is the responsibility of relevant regulatory bodies, not the UK Government or Parliament.

In any case, menopause is already included in the general training for GPs.

NHS England has also established the Menopause Pathway Improvement Programme. This is working to improve clinical medical care in England, reduce disparities in access to treatment and develop a comprehensive education and training package on menopause for healthcare professionals.
