Update Universal Credit payments for all claimants from date new rates apply
Closed

What the petition asks
Universal Credit is paid based on monthly assessment periods. Where an assessment period starts before new rates are introduced, claimants don't benefit from new rates until their next assessment period. We want this to change, so that new rates apply to all claimants as soon as they are introduced.
Under the current system claimants can miss out on significant increases in their benefits when Universal Credit allowances are increased in April. I want the Government to change the system so claimants have their Universal Credit payments increased from the day that the changes take affect. At the moment, claimants don’t see the increase until one full assessment period after the rates increase, therefore resulting in many people missing out on between 1 to 30 days at the increased rates.
