Arming the UK police with firearms.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Arm/arming the police with firearms.

To grant the power to use a firearm when criminals are in possession of serious weapons (firearms, knives etc.) and intends to use it or has already used it against a member of the public.
The public needs to feel secure and know that the police are capable of protecting them, that the police are given all the tools and powers they need to disarm and deprive the dominance of attackers and prevent further crime. To avoid tragedies and murders.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

Police officers can already be trained and authorised to use firearms but this is an operational matter for the police.

We could accept a petition calling for all police to be required to be armed.
