Before an area of the UK is merged all the electorate be asked in a binding vote
Rejected

What the petition asks
New boundaries to be imposed without giving the electorate in these areas a chance to have their say
A binding referendum will be a fair way of deciding what local people want and not what political parties want to impose on them
It will also save money in the planning stages if it is not wanted

This is the only way the people who live in the area will have a chance to express their wishes.
The High Peak is part of Derbyshire and towns like Glossop and Buxton do not want to be swallowed up by Greater Manchester.
It is generally felt that we do not want our beautiful countryside to become a dumping ground for more Manchester overspill estates.
A local binding referendum would settle all arguments both for or against and save money on making any plans for mergers if they are not wanted.
