Petition
Regulate UK Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centres
Rejected
11 signatures
What the petition asks
There is no law regulating animal rescue & rehoming centres in the UK. Literally, anyone can set them up (including rogue dog dealers & puppy farmers). Please provide legislation & standards for shelters to comply with and regulations for them to follow.
Regulating rescue centres will help guarantee animals receive the quality of care promised. It will raise standards, promote best practice, build public trust, and safeguard people, animals, and organisations. It will also allow rogue rescues to be investigated if there are genuine concerns.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
In the UK, animal rescue and rehoming centres are not currently subject to specific licensing or regulation, but they must adhere to the general requirements of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, ensuring the animals' welfare needs are met.
If you want a change to the current regulations, you could start a petition about that.
