What the petition asks
As of 1st April 2025, all private Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) will be charged £10, £20 or £195 a year for Vehicle Excise Duty (VED). We feel that as ZEVs do not produce emissions, they should not be required to pay a higher VED tariff.
As Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) owners, we understand the need to contribute something toward maintaining the transport infrastructure, however we believe that as this has previously been an emissions-based VED, the owner of a ZEVs should pay the current lowest VED rate of £10 per year, irrespective of the age of the vehicle.
We want this to become the "new" zero emissions charge, with Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) VED tariffs starting from £30 per year.
