Despite the essential role that HGV drivers play in keeping goods moving across the UK, we feel they often lack access to secure rest areas, well-lit truck stops, and sufficient CCTV coverage. Many are forced to park in unsafe locations due to a severe shortage of secure parking facilities, putting both drivers and cargo at risk. Cargo theft from HGVs is a growing problem, with over 5,370 thefts reported in 2023, resulting in direct losses of £68.3 million.
