Petition

Raise the expensive car supplement threshold.

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

We need an Independent report created to examine how the price of vehicles has increased over the years.

From this, the government needs to alter the price of the "Expensive Car Supplement" to fall inline with a correct definition of a "Luxury" car.
There is already another petition about this same topic, however that petition calls for a general raise of the limit - which I believe falls short of the correct amount it should be raised.

My own investigation appears to show car prices have increased dramatically since 2017, with smaller cars disproportionately inflating in price over others (in terms of % change), probably as more technology is installed into these vehicles.

Some examples are; Fiesta 25%, Focus 43%, Golf 36%.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure exactly how much you would like for the expensive car supplement to be raised and/or how this increase should be calculated.

You could start a new petition clearly outlining what specific action you would like the Government or Parliament to take.

You may also wish to sign this petition which calls for a similar action: Raise the expensive car supplement threshold to £50k
