Make Laser Eye Surgery Available on the NHS for Adults with Stable Prescriptions

Open for signatures 36 signatures

What the petition asks

Laser eye surgery is a clinically effective, cheap, and efficient long-term solution for vision correction. For adults with stable prescriptions, it can reduce ongoing NHS costs, improve quality of life, and reduce reliance on single-use plastics from glasses and contact lenses.
We ask the government to review the classification of laser eye surgery as corrective rather than essential. Vision is a necessity for the work force and glasses often become a hazard in labour intensive roles. Laser eye surgery is cheap and quick, for those suitable. It would improve public health, reduce long-term NHS costs, support environmental goals, and enhance accessibility. Existing NHS care for children and older adults would remain unaffected, ensuring balance in services.
