What the petition asks
There have been reports that the United States is asking the UK to repeal parts of its hate speech laws currently protecting individuals, groups & minorities as a condition in any trade deals between the nations. We want the UK government to reject any changes to these laws, as a condition, outright
We want Hate speech laws in their current form to remain in the UK to protect individuals and communities from discrimination, hostility, and violence, while also ensuring the rights of free expression are balanced. These laws aim to prevent the incitement of hatred, violence, and discrimination based on protected characteristics like race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and disability. We think this deters harmful behaviour and promotes a more inclusive and tolerant society to live in.
