Petition

Designate the Mourne Mountains as a National Park.

Rejected 11 signatures

What the petition asks

Designate the Mourne Mountains as a National Park, with all the protections that such would entail.
The Mourne Mountains are an hugely important fixture of the Irish landscape: intrinsically tied to the mythology of the Ulster Cycle, one of the oldest works of literature in Europe, and also made famous in modern song through the works of Percy French. NMD are obsessed with an incredibly unpopular policy of the farcically-named ‘Gondola’ project which would pollute the skyline of mountains with needless cable car. Having failed to build this in Newcastle, they now want to put it in Rostrevor.

Why it was rejected

It was about a matter for a local council or devolved government, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We have to reject petitions that call for action at a local level.

You could ask your MP to take action on your concerns about this issue, including by asking them to present a public (paper) petition about this.

You can find contact details for your local MP here: https://members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP
