Mandate funding of active travel provision as part of any transport projects

What the petition asks
In light of the Chancellor's recent announcement of funding for transport infrastructure, we call for new legislation mandating funding for active travel provision alongside funding for transport projects, built at the same time as any transport improvements or construction.
If new infrastructure damages existing active travel paths, mandate building of adequate alternatives.
Integrating active travel (e.g. cycle lanes, footpaths or crossings) into larger transport projects can promote physical activity and reduce strain on the NHS, help reduce congestion on roads and save CO2. Long distance walking and cycling routes can contribute to domestic tourism, and pedestrians and cyclists often spend more per head in local businesses than drivers.
