What the petition asks

We ask the Government to amend the Immigration Rules so that any person who enters the UK on a spouse visa and later divorces must return to their country of origin, unless there are exceptional humanitarian or legal reasons for remaining.

Spouse visas are granted based on a committed relationship. If the relationship ends, the basis for the visa no longer exists. This change would help prevent potential misuse of the system and ensure immigration rules remain fair and consistent.

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

Those on a visa that is dependent on a partner's UK visa or a spouse/partner on a family visa will already either need to apply to stay in the UK or leave following a divorce. More information on this can be found here:
