Petition
Force a bye election for elected politicians who join another political party
Rejected
15 signatures
What the petition asks
Introduce legislation to enforce politicians who hold an elected post e.g. a Member of Parliament, Mayor, Police and Crime Commissioner, County Councillor, Parish Councillor etc who change their Political Party or Banner, to have to step down from their elected position and face a Bye Election.
Because people elected under a political party or banner have been elected by the public based on the information they have been given by that individual or political party prior to entering the polling station and voting for the candidate. When they switch to a different political party they have deceived those who voted for them and would not have been elected had they stood under their new political party or banner at the original election.
