What the petition asks

Community first responders are lifesaving volunteers who act swiftly in emergencies, but parking issues often delay their vital work. It’s time to support these dedicated heroes so they can continue saving lives without unnecessary obstacles.

Currently, strict parking regulations, including restrictions on parking in double yellow-lined areas, hamper the ability of emergency volunteers to access locations quickly. This can cause precious minutes to be lost in situations where every second counts. While regulations are foundational to maintaining public order and safety, there should be exceptions for those whose work can potentially save lives. Evidence shows that parking difficulties severely hinder emergency response times.

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

Under the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002, a vehicle being used for ambulance purposes may park in restriced areas. In an emergency, ambulances can already park in double yellow-lined areas without being subject to fixed penalty notices. However this does not apply when an ambulance is parked and it is not being used in an emergency situations.
