Create a Sikh regiment in the British Army

What the petition asks
Historically, Sikhs have been very involved in the British (Indian) Army, serving in many wars and battles (WW1, WW2 and the Battle of Saragarhi). We believe opening a Sikh regiment in the UK army will help represent the previous bravery of Sikhs not just in the British Army, but in the World too.
It could allow a true demonstration of the involvement of Sikhs in the British Army. Furthermore, it could promote diversity within the armed forces and may encourage more young Sikhs to be aware of it as possible career path. Not as a comparison, but as a consideration, there are already Gurkha units, which represents respect given to them due to their bravery in battle. Sikhs have represented honour and courage throughout history – having a Sikh regiment would highlight this.
