What the petition asks
To formally recognise farming/ farm stewardship as a protected element of the UK’s national cultural heritage, essential to national security, food sovereignty, environmental stewardship. Ensure its protection in UK law under existing international human rights and cultural heritage obligations
We call on the UK Government to recognise farming/farmland stewardship as UK intangible cultural heritage under the UNESCO Convention, and within obligations under ICESCR & ECHR. Acknowledge farming as a strategic national security asset. Enshrine in law protections from CPOs, punitive tax, or non-farm use without overriding need, due process & fair compensation, safeguarding food security & heritage.
In times of global instability the UK must prioritise food security and our farming heritage.
