Petition
Require MPs who resign to immediately vacate their seat in the House of Commons
Rejected

What the petition asks
Change the law so MPs who resign also lose their seat and status. Currently they can remain MPs, causing confusion and undermining trust. Once they resign, they should no longer sit in the Commons or hold the title of MP. If an MP resigns they should leave Parliament
MPs who resign should immediately lose their seat. Allowing them to quit a role yet remain MPs damages public trust. Resigning for misconduct or failure but keeping power and pay shows no real accountability. If their actions warrant resignation, they should leave Parliament. Anything less erodes faith in democracy and suggests politicians face different rules than the public.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a clear action.
We're not sure exactly when you'd like this to apply. For example, we're not sure if you are referring to MPs who announce their intention to stand down at the next election, or MPs who resign from ministerial positions.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like.
