Scrap and replace the Marginal Pricing Model for UK Energy

Closed 124 signatures

What the petition asks

Scrap and replace the Marginal Pricing Model for a fairer pricing structure with lower consumer and business energy bills. The UK is free to set its market rules post-Brexit. We think this change would cut bills, stabilise the economy, protect households, and secure the UK’s long-term energy future.
Wholesale price of electricity is set by the most expensive unit of generation needed to meet demand, almost always gas-fired power. When 60–70% of the grid is supplied by cheaper renewables and nuclear, households/businesses still pay prices tied to volatile global gas markets.

We think the Economic/Social Benefits of Reform could be:
Lower Consumer Bills
Boost to Disposable Income
Energy Security & Inflation Control
Green Jobs boosted
Tackles Fuel Poverty
Public Health
Accelerates Net Zero
Lower Carbon Footprint
