What the petition asks
We, the undersigned, call upon Parliament to preserve the historic and valued presence of Bishops of the Church of England in the House of Lords. As a Christian country with a long-established Church, the UK has, for centuries, benefited from the moral and spiritual guidance of the Church leaders.
The Lords Spiritual — the 26 Bishops who sit in the HoL — provide a vital voice rooted in centuries of ethical, pastoral, and theological wisdom. Representing the Church of England, but also serve as moral advocates for the common good, social justice, and human dignity for all people, regardless of faith or background.
We urge Parliament to safeguard the place of the Bishops in the HoL, and in doing so, reaffirm the UK's commitment to its Christian roots, leadership, and inclusive tradition.
