What the petition asks

Investigate the legality of British citizens serving in the IDF under the Foreign Enlistment Act 1870.

To have the police investigate all UK citizens who served with the IDF since 7th October 2023 for information on war crimes committed by any of serving member of the IDF.

‘Section 4 of the Foreign Enlistment Act 1870 makes it an offence for a British subject to enlist in the military of a foreign state at war with another foreign state with which the UK is at peace.’

As the state of Palestine has been officially recognised by the UK government today, and the government is not at war with Palestine, then the legal or criminal implications for anyone from the UK serving in the IDF are serious.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Investigations of potential crimes - including war crimes - are a matter for the police, not the UK Government or Parliament.
