What the petition asks
. Every year around 5 November, fireworks terrify countless pets and wildlife. Renaming Guy Fawkes Night to “Scare Your Pets Day” would highlight the suffering caused and spark discussion about more compassionate celebrations.
Fireworks cause panic, injury, and distress to animals across the UK. Many pet owners dread this night. Renaming it “Scare Your Pets Day” would make the issue impossible to ignore, encouraging public awareness and empathy. It’s time our traditions reflected kindness as well as history.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
The naming of Guy Fawkes night is not an official responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament, but is a matter of tradition and public custom.
