Petition

Cut the cost of student travel

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Make the 16-25 saver 50% too.
Ensure discounts apply at all times (not just off-peak) or past a certain time.
A free or reduced-cost student travel pass for under-19s or full-time students.
Train travel is unaffordable for students. Even with a 16–17 Saver, I pay £5 for a return—the cheapest fare on my line—adding up to £25 a week, plus fuel to reach the station. Many can’t afford to learn to drive. Students outside Cambridge postcode areas miss out on the Tiger Pass and pay £5 for a bus instead of £2. This isn’t fair or sustainable, and high costs mean many students skip college when it’s only for one lesson.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Petitions must call for a specific action that the UK Government or House of Commons is responsible for.

Decisions about the terms and conditions for the 16-25 Railcard are a matter for the rail industry, not the Government or House of Commons.

As a result it is not possible for the Government or House of Commons to take the action you have requested.
