Petition
Protect the current 5-year ILR route for existing refugees
Rejected

What the petition asks
Government plans to extend the ILR period from 5 years to 20/30 years, creating long-term uncertainty for thousands of refugees on the 5-year route. We ask the Government not to apply this change retrospectively and to provide a fair transitional arrangement so those already on the 5-year route.
Changing the qualifying period for people who have already lived, worked, and integrated in the UK under the existing rules would create unnecessary hardship and instability. A fair exemption or transitional policy would prevent this and maintain trust in the UK immigration system.
