What the petition asks
We call upon the UK Government to launch an independent, public inquiry into reported allegations that British citizens participated as snipers targeting civilians, including children, during the Siege of Sarajevo (1992-1995).
The Siege of Sarajevo was the longest siege of a capital city in modern history, a campaign of terror marked by the targeting of civilians. A key tactic of this terror was the use of snipers in Sarajevo, which contributed to Serbian officials being charged and sentenced in the International Criminal Court.
We believe the UK has a moral and legal obligation as a founding member of the ICC, and with a permanent membership of the security council, that has stated commitments to upholding international law and human rights.
